The plot is earmarked for renowned Las Vegas hotel brands like MGM, Bellagio, and Aria.
Dubai boasts iconic destinations such as Bluewaters Island, Jumeirah Bay Island, Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Pearl Jumeira, World Islands, and Dubai Islands.
Plans are underway for a 10.5-hectare island, named The Island, to become part of the city’s offshore attractions.
Situated off the coast of Umm Suqeim, adjacent to Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the upcoming Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, this mega project is poised to commence construction soon.
Developer Wasl has enlisted China State Construction Engineering Corporation for The Island project, a Dhs4.4 billion venture, marking Dubai’s largest construction deal since 2017, according to Meed.
The project’s scope includes properties featuring Las Vegas hotel brands MGM, Bellagio, and Aria, comprising 1,400 hotel rooms and apartments, along with retail and dining establishments.
Speculation arises about The Island possibly becoming a gaming zone, given MGM’s global gaming operations.
This follows the establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) in the UAE in September.
GCGRA aims to introduce a world-leading regulatory framework for commercial gaming and a national lottery, ensuring a responsible and well-regulated gaming environment.
There are suspicions that the UAE’s inaugural casino may be on Ras Al Khaimah’s Dream Island, with plans for a Wynn resort opening in 2026, expected to surpass the size of Wynn Las Vegas.
Wynn Resorts’ CEO, Craig Billings, mentioned that the proposed Wynn resort will be fully licensed to conduct gaming when it opens.
